# BIM certification with Allplan at PT Wijaya Karya

> In June 2020 PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk certified me in BIM Building Modeling with Allplan: five steps from a one-storey house to the structure, services and reinforcement of a high-rise.

In June 2020, PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk certified me in BIM Building Modeling with Allplan. I was still an architecture student at Diponegoro University, three months out of a junior architect internship, and it was the first time my modelling work was measured against a state-owned contractor's standard rather than a studio's.

## What the certification covered

Building Information Modeling means building a structure digitally before building it physically, with every element carrying its properties: dimensions, material, reinforcement, cost. WIKA's programme, BIM Learning: Basic Building Modeling with Allplan, worked through that in five steps, from a small house to a high-rise:

1. **A one-storey house**, modelled with its walls, openings and furnished plan, and its elevation drawn from the model.
1. **A two-storey house**: the same workflow over two floors, with a stair, a pitched roof and a section through both levels.
1. **A high-rise structure**: the frame of a tower with twenty floors above the ground floor, on a piled foundation.
1. **Mechanical, electrical and plumbing** for the same tower, with services such as ventilation routed through the model.
1. **The detailed structural framework**, with the reinforcement bars modelled from the foundation up.

It was not my first contact with BIM. In February 2019 I had trained in BIM Archicad Modeling at Skala Architectural Course, which covered the migration from CAD to BIM and how structural and material properties feed quantity take-off. Archicad is an architect's tool; Allplan, the way WIKA used it, is an engineer's and contractor's. Learning the second after the first showed me the same building from the side that has to pour the concrete.

## Where it led

The direct value was technical. The indirect value showed up two years later. From August 2022 to July 2024 I worked in contract and claim management at PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk on national strategic projects, and part of that job was auditing whether what was built in the field matched the contractual specifications. Being able to read the contractor's own modelling language made that easier. It also settled a habit I still rely on in AI work: model the structure first, with every element carrying its data, before anyone argues about the surface.
