# LAB.in Studio

LAB.in Studio took over from Maxis Studio in September 2020 and ran until August 2024. Its portfolio spans hotels and a convention centre, malls and a cinema, a hospital, a school, a mosque and public parks, built on written SOPs, shared schedules and a quality check before every delivery.

**TL;DR** LAB.in Studio was the architectural visualisation studio Nugraha Labib Mujaddid founded in September 2020 while still studying architecture at Diponegoro University, as the successor to Maxis Studio. Over four years, a team of four designers produced 3D renders and animation for 30+ clients across 20+ render projects, from hotels, malls and hospitals to cinemas, schools and a mosque.

## What LAB.in was

LAB.in Studio was a design visualisation studio in Semarang. It offered 3D architectural renders and animation, video and photo editing and logo design. I founded it in September 2020, while still studying architecture at Undip, as the successor to Maxis Studio, the first studio I started in 2019. It ran until August 2024 and served more than 30 clients.

- **30+** clients
- **20+** render projects
- **4** years (2020 to 2024)

## How the studio worked

A small studio only scales if the work does not depend on one person's memory. I led a team of four designers and built the studio around a few habits:

**The studio's operating system**
- Written SOPs: A clear brief and a checklist at intake, so every job starts with the same questions answered.
- Shared schedules: Work schedules that let several projects run at once without anyone losing track.
- Quality control: Every piece of work was reviewed before it went to a client.
- Market and money: Market and audience research for the marketing plan, and a promotion budget planned in advance.

## Selected render projects

These projects come from the studio's portfolio. Each gallery shows every render the portfolio kept for that project; tap any image to enlarge it.

### UNDIP Hotel and Convention Center

A hotel and convention complex with a sculpted roof and a landmark entrance, rendered at golden hour.

### Mall City Walk BSB

A lifestyle mall with an IMAX cinema, an open plaza lined with palms and a planted atrium.

### BSB Cinema Centre

A cinema interior with neon-lit lobbies, corridors and theatres.

### RSIA Semarang

A mother and child hospital, from the street facade to the entrance and landscape.

### Resort hotel in the mountains

A resort hotel set against the hills, with rooms, terraces and interiors.

### The Royal Suites Mall & Apartment

A mixed-use tower of shops and apartments in a dense city block.

### Mosque

A contemporary mosque with a curved roof and a patterned facade.

### Primary school

A primary school campus with classrooms, courtyards and play areas.

### Sports hall and swimming pool

An indoor sports centre with a competition pool and multi-sport courts.

### Modern commercial building

A white, sculpted commercial building with a landscaped forecourt and bright interiors.

### Motion Park

A public park with a sculpted gateway, cycling paths and picnic lawns.

### More from the portfolio

The portfolio also lists render work for Bontang Airport, Kendal Passenger Terminal, Mororejo Beach Resort and Hotel, Raos Sekeco Ungaran Hotel and Private Resort, a mall, and a special school for students with double disabilities in Semarang.

## Render videos

Seven animated walkthroughs the studio rendered for final-year architecture projects by its clients, from Bontang Airport to a primary school. The design in each one is the client's; LAB.in built the 3D model, the materials, the lighting and the camera path.

## Real projects

Alongside render work, the studio carried real design projects into construction, such as the food court in Purin, Kendal, from 2021. Its story, with the design, the zoning plan and photos from the build, has its own page.

## Lessons

Visualisation is a communication job before it is a rendering job. Clients decide from an image, so the image has to answer their question, not show off the software. Running four designers also taught me the value of a written SOP: a clear brief and a checklist at intake prevent more rework than any faster machine, and a schedule that everyone can see is what lets one small studio serve thirty clients.

**Need visuals for a project?** I am happy to talk about architectural visualisation and design.
